Heesung Catalysts Wins Best Paper Award at the 2025 KOSECC Spring Conference for Methanol Synthesis Catalyst Research
2025.05.26
Heesung Catalysts Co., Ltd. was honored with the Best Paper Presentation Award at the 2025 Spring Conference of the Korean Society of Energy and Climate Change (KOSECC), held from May 21 to 23 at the Jeju Global Center of the Korea Institute of Energy Research.
The award was presented in the Young Researchers’ Session for the study titled “Development and Mass Production of Catalysts for Methanol Synthesis Toward Carbon-Neutral Fuel Production.” The paper was presented by Mr. Kijung Kim, Researcher, who served as the lead author.
The study focused on CCU-based methanol synthesis technology utilizing carbon dioxide (CO₂) as a feedstock. By applying a co-precipitation method, the research team enhanced CO₂ adsorption and activation, resulting in a high-activity catalyst. The developed catalyst demonstrated excellent conversion and selectivity, and further proved its scalability by maintaining the same performance in industrial-scale mass production processes—confirming its potential for commercialization.

In addition, in the Education Program Session, Dr. Hodong Kim, Team Leader, delivered a presentation on “Commercial Catalyst Manufacturing Technology.” His session shared technical know-how from catalyst manufacturing processes and real-world industrial applications, providing valuable insights into commercialization perspectives.
Looking ahead, Heesung Catalysts will continue to accelerate the practical application of high-performance catalyst technologies, ensuring that innovations developed in research labs are successfully transferred to industrial settings. The company remains committed to creating sustainable catalyst solutions that harmonize environmental responsibility with technological advancement, contributing to the realization of a sustainable future society.
About KOSECC
The Korean Society of Energy and Climate Change (KOSECC) is a leading academic association dedicated to advancing research and policy development in the fields of energy and climate change. Established in the late 1990s following the adoption of the UNFCCC and the Kyoto Protocol, KOSECC was founded in response to Korea’s heavy reliance on energy imports and the growing challenges of greenhouse gas emissions. Today, the society covers a wide range of areas including CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage), future energy, hydrogen technologies, and environmental policy. Through its regular conferences, industry–academia–research collaborations, and international joint research initiatives, KOSECC plays a central role in sharing the latest technologies and strategies to advance energy transition and achieve carbon neutrality.
