Dr. Jinwoo Song, Head of R&D at Heesung Catalysts, delivered an invited keynote presentation at ISCRE29 & APCRE11, held at COEX in Seoul from May 10 to 13, 2026.

ISCRE29 (29th International Symposium on Chemical Reaction Engineering) and APCRE11 (11th Asia-Pacific Chemical Reaction Engineering) are international conferences that bring together researchers, engineers, and industry experts in the field of chemical reaction engineering. This year’s conference was held under the theme “Chemical Reaction Engineering toward a Carbon-Neutral Future,” providing a platform to share innovative technologies and research contributing to a sustainable and carbon-neutral future.

The conference attracted participants from global research institutes and industries, with active discussions and presentations on the latest technological trends and research developments. Dr. Song’s invited keynote presentation also drew significant attention from attendees.

On May 11, Dr. Song delivered a presentation titled “Catalysis-driven Practical Solutions for Carbon Neutrality,” introducing Heesung Catalysts’ catalyst technologies and carbon-neutral solutions.

Practical Catalyst Solutions for the Carbon-Neutral Era

In his presentation, Dr. Song highlighted the role of catalyst technologies across various industries in achieving carbon neutrality. He emphasized that catalysts are not simply materials that improve reaction efficiency, but key technologies that help solve practical industrial challenges such as emission control and greenhouse gas reduction.

Founded in 1983 with automotive emission control catalysts, Heesung Catalysts has continuously expanded its catalyst technologies and solutions based on decades of experience in exhaust gas purification for internal combustion engines. The presentation introduced how these technological capabilities are evolving to address future emission regulations and carbon-neutral technologies.

Expanding Technologies from Emission Control to Climate Catalysts

The presentation covered the development status of emission control catalyst technologies for internal combustion engines used in automobiles, construction equipment, and agricultural machinery. It also highlighted the importance of catalyst technologies capable of maintaining stable performance under increasingly stringent environmental regulations and diverse operating conditions.

In addition, Dr. Song introduced the development and commercialization status of climate catalyst technologies designed to reduce greenhouse gases emitted from key industries such as shipping, power generation, steelmaking, and semiconductors. Since each industry has different emission characteristics and process conditions, securing catalyst technologies suitable for real industrial applications was presented as a critical foundation for achieving carbon neutrality.

Catalyst Technologies Supporting the Hydrogen Economy and Heesung Catalysts’ R&D Direction

The presentation also introduced catalyst technologies required throughout the hydrogen value chain, including hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and utilization. Technologies and commercialization efforts related to methane reforming, ammonia cracking, water electrolysis, and fuel cells were included as part of the presentation.

Starting from automotive emission control catalysts, Heesung Catalysts has expanded its R&D portfolio into climate catalysts for greenhouse gas reduction and catalyst technologies supporting the hydrogen economy. Moving forward, the company plans to continue developing practical catalyst solutions that contribute to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, leveraging its accumulated expertise in catalyst design and commercialization.
