Heesung Catalysts Conducts Safety Benchmarking at BASF ECMS in Germany for Safety100 Outstanding Participants
2026.09.10
From August 25 to 26, Heesung Catalysts conducted an overseas safety benchmarking program at the BASF ECMS Nienburg Site in Germany for employees recognized for their outstanding participation in the Safety100 initiative.
The program was designed to recognize employees for their active participation in Safety100 and provide them with an opportunity to experience safety management systems and practices at a leading overseas site.
The visit was particularly meaningful as employees’ active participation and commitment to safety led to a new opportunity to learn from safety practices in a different working environment.
Active Participation in Safety100 Leads to a New Learning Opportunity
The benchmarking program brought together a total of eight participants, including Safety100 outstanding participants from Production Team 1, Production Team 3, the Quality Team, the Automotive Environmental Catalyst Development Team, and the Electrode Catalyst Development Team, along with employees responsible for supporting and managing the program.
From March to June, Heesung Catalysts carried out Safety100, a company-wide safety culture initiative under the slogan “100 Days, 100% Participation, 100% Commitment.” Employees across the company took part in various activities, including identifying potential hazards, TBM (Tool Box Meetings), workplace organization activities based on 3J5S, and risk assessments, putting safety into practice in their daily work.
The overseas benchmarking program was organized to give employees who actively contributed to these activities and the development of a stronger safety culture an opportunity to broaden their perspectives and gain new experiences.

Learning from Safety Management and Culture at an Overseas Site
On August 25, participants visited the production site to observe how safety management, work practices, and safety culture are implemented in day-to-day operations.
On August 26, the program focused on overall safety management practices, including safety management systems, risk assessment, accident analysis, and machinery and equipment safety. Participants explored various practices and approaches that could provide useful insights for Heesung Catalysts’ own safety activities.
Rather than simply comparing systems and facilities, the benchmarking program focused on how safety standards and principles are put into practice at the workplace and become part of employees’ everyday behavior.
Bringing New Experiences Back to the Workplace
Through the visit, participants reaffirmed that safety is built not only through systems and equipment, but also through adherence to basic principles, standardized work practices, and each employee’s understanding and commitment to putting safety into practice.
The program also gave participants an opportunity to look at familiar work and workplace practices from a different perspective and gain new ideas for improvement. They shared a common commitment to apply what they learned to their own work and workplaces and to share useful practices and ideas with their colleagues.
Employee Participation and Growth for a Safer Workplace
The overseas benchmarking program was more than a recognition for outstanding Safety100 activities. It also demonstrated how employees’ active participation and commitment can lead to new opportunities for learning and growth.
At Heesung Catalysts, we encourage good practices and improvement efforts across the workplace, regardless of role or position, and support employees in gaining new experiences, growing through them, and sharing what they learn with the organization.
Building on the safety practices established through Safety100, Heesung Catalysts will continue the journey through Safety100+, fostering a safety culture in which employees’ participation and ideas lead to meaningful improvements in the workplace.
