Heesung Catalysts Presents Post-Treatment Catalyst Technology for LNG Power Plant Decarbonization at AC2GTUG Conference
2025.11.22

Heesung Catalysts presented emission reduction technologies for pollutants generated during the startup phase of LNG combined cycle power plants at the 2nd AC2GTUG (Asian Chapter Advanced Class Gas Turbine User Group) Conference, held November 20-21 at the Sunshine Hotel in Daejeon.
The event, hosted by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), brought together approximately 100 engineers and specialists, including representatives from the Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI), five major Korean power generation companies, and global gas turbine manufacturers.
Mr. Jinwoo Song, Head of Research at Heesung Catalysts, delivered a presentation titled “Advanced Catalyst Technologies for Startup Emission Control in LNG Combined Cycle Power Plants.” He outlined strategies for implementing oxidation-reduction hybrid catalyst technologies capable of simultaneously reducing CO, unburned hydrocarbons (UHC), and NO₂ (brown plume) emissions during initial operation phases when low exhaust gas temperatures reduce post-treatment efficiency.
Heesung Catalysts has successfully completed pilot-scale demonstrations in collaboration with KEPRI and the five power generation companies, and plans to gradually expand commercial supply beginning in 2025. The company also presented a next-generation technology roadmap—including high-temperature SCR, Smart AOC, N₂O reduction catalysts, and methane oxidation catalysts—to address increasingly stringent environmental regulations and Korea’s 2035 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets for greenhouse gas reduction.
The conference saw widespread consensus on the critical importance of post-treatment catalyst technologies for decarbonizing LNG gas turbine power generation. There was significant interest in Heesung Catalysts’ technical capabilities and production capacity, along with in-depth professional discussions on practical implementation challenges including installation requirements, economic feasibility, and regulatory compliance.
Heesung Catalysts is actively leading the adoption of post-treatment technologies in the LNG gas turbine power generation sector and will continue strengthening collaboration with power companies and gas turbine manufacturers to develop highly practical field-applicable solutions. Through demonstration-based catalyst technology development, we are committed to providing practical solutions that meet the needs of power generation facilities and expanding our role as a key technology partner in driving the low-carbon transition of Korea’s power generation industry.
