Over a 20-year period, methane has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) approximately 80 times that of CO₂, making methane emission reduction an effective strategy for mitigating near-term climate change.

At the same time, methane is the primary component of natural gas and an important energy and chemical feedstock used to produce hydrogen and various chemical products. Technological approaches to methane can therefore be considered from two complementary perspectives: reducing emissions into the atmosphere and converting methane into valuable resources.

Against this backdrop, Dr. Jinwoo Song delivered a presentation titled “Catalysis-Driven Practical Solutions for Methane Mitigation and Utilization” during the private sector session, introducing catalyst technologies and solutions applicable across multiple industries.

In the Methane Mitigation segment, he outlined catalyst technologies and potential applications for reducing methane emissions from on-road and off-road vehicles, marine applications, and power generation facilities. He emphasized the importance of selecting appropriate catalyst solutions to address differences in emission characteristics and operating conditions across industrial applications.

In the Methane Utilization segment, he introduced catalytic approaches to using methane as a feedstock for hydrogen production and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production. The presentation highlighted methane’s potential not only as an emission source to be controlled but also as a valuable resource for producing hydrogen, liquid fuels, and other energy and chemical products.

The presentation underscored both the environmental impact of methane and its value as a resource, demonstrating how catalyst technologies can address a broad range of environmental and energy challenges, from greenhouse gas emission reduction to clean energy production. By sharing practical technological approaches from the perspective of a private sector catalyst company, Heesung Catalysts contributed an industrial perspective to international discussions on translating methane mitigation goals into applicable technologies.

Catalyst Solutions for a Sustainable Transition in the Global Environmental and Energy Industries

As efforts to address climate change and accelerate the energy transition gain momentum, industries face growing demands to reduce greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions while improving energy efficiency and process sustainability. Since operating conditions and process requirements vary across industries, technological approaches must balance environmental performance with industrial efficiency.

Catalysts play an important role in meeting these challenges. Beyond reducing pollutants in exhaust gases, they are used to improve the efficiency of chemical reactions and enable the production of new energy sources. Building on these capabilities, Heesung Catalysts provides solutions across a wide range of industries, including automotive emission control, air pollution reduction in industrial and power generation facilities, chemical processes, hydrogen production and utilization, and clean energy applications.

The GGGI workshop provided an opportunity for Heesung Catalysts to share its technical expertise with an international audience and explore opportunities for technology exchange and collaboration in methane mitigation. Moving forward, Heesung Catalysts will continue to leverage its accumulated technological expertise and industrial experience to support greenhouse gas emission reduction and the clean energy transition, providing catalyst solutions that contribute to the sustainable development of the global environmental and energy industries.

Related Information
Explore Decarbonization Catalysts ↗
Explore Greenhouse Gas Reduction Catalysts ↗
Read the Related Article ↗

["post-6225","news","type-news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
