The presentation was given during the symposium session titled \u201cAdvancement of Next-Generation CCU Technologies: Demonstration Technology Development for Liquid Fuel Production Based on CO\u2082 Conversion from Iron and Steel Processes,\u201d hosted by the Research Institute of Industrial Science &amp; Technology (RIST). The presentation was led by Dr. Hodong Kim, Senior Researcher at Heesung Catalysts, who introduced the topic of catalyst mass production technology for CCU applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">The Meaning of CCU Technology and CO\u2082 Conversion in Iron and Steel Processes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>CCU (Carbon Capture &amp; Utilization) refers to a technology that captures carbon dioxide (CO\u2082) emitted from industrial processes and converts it into fuels, chemical feedstocks, and other useful products. It is gaining attention as one of the key technologies in the carbon-neutral era, as it can both reduce carbon emissions and enhance resource utilization. In particular, iron and steelmaking is considered one of the major industrial sources of CO\u2082 emissions. As a result, there is growing interest in technologies that capture CO\u2082 generated from steelmaking processes and utilize it through conversion processes to produce high-value products such as liquid fuels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">The Importance of Catalysts in CCU Processes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Catalysts are a key element in CCU processes because they effectively promote CO\u2082 conversion reactions. Since CO\u2082 is a chemically stable molecule, catalyst technology is essential for converting it efficiently into desired products. Catalysts influence reaction efficiency and selectivity, and they serve as a critical foundation that determines the practical performance of the process. Therefore, for CCU technology to move beyond the demonstration stage and into industrial application, not only process design but also catalyst technology that supports the conversion reaction must be secured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">Catalyst Mass Production Technology Supporting Demonstration and Commercialization<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For the industrial application of CCU technology, it is not enough to secure catalyst performance alone. It is equally important to establish mass production technology that can repeatedly produce catalysts with stable quality. Even if excellent catalyst performance is confirmed at the research stage, production stability and quality consistency are essential for actual process application, demonstration, and eventual commercialization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this regard, the presentation topic, \u201cDevelopment of Catalyst Mass Production Technology for CCU Applications,\u201d is particularly meaningful.
