According to the Strengthening Workers’ Roles in Preventing Serious Industrial Accidents<\/em> report recently published by the Korea Enterprises Federation (KEF), an average of 58.5% of industrial accidents are caused by workers failing to follow safety rules. In the same survey, 66.7% of respondents identified fostering a workplace culture and environment that prioritizes safety rules as the most important initiative for preventing serious accidents.<\/strong> These findings highlight that safety cannot be achieved through policies and regulations alone. It requires a workplace culture where every employee consistently puts safety into practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this in mind, Heesung Catalysts launched the Safety100<\/strong> campaign to make safety an integral part of its organizational culture rather than a one-time initiative. Today, that commitment continues through Safety100+<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 11, Heesung Catalysts took the first step with the official Safety Declaration Ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than the launch of a new campaign, the event reaffirmed safety as a core organizational value built by every employee. Led by the CEO, employees across the company pledged their commitment to safety and reaffirmed that workplace safety is not the responsibility of a specific department or manager, but a fundamental principle that everyone must uphold together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal of Safety100 was to encourage every employee to actively practice safety over 100 days and embed safety into the company’s organizational culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the declaration ceremony, Heesung Catalysts carried out a wide range of safety initiatives to make safety part of everyday work rather than a one-time event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building the Foundation with 3J5S and TBM<\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Safety begins with everyday workplace habits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the Safety100 campaign, Heesung Catalysts improved workplace organization and safety through its 3J5S activities. The “3J” principles refer to maintaining the right item, the right quantity, and the right location, while “5S” stands for Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simple daily practices such as removing unnecessary materials, keeping walkways clear, and storing equipment in designated locations improved operational efficiency while helping prevent slips, trips, collisions, and falling-object incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company also conducted daily Tool Box Meetings (TBM) before work began. These meetings encouraged employees to identify potential hazards, review daily tasks, and confirm required personal protective equipment and safety measures before starting work. This routine became an important step in strengthening safety awareness across the workplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Identifying Risks and Improving Together<\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heesung Catalysts introduced a digital hazard reporting system that allows employees to easily report potential risks or suggest workplace improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each report was reviewed by the relevant department, enabling potential hazards to be identified and addressed at an early stage while strengthening the company’s proactive safety management system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety oversight extended beyond the production floor. Executives and team leaders regularly reviewed safety performance and improvement plans during management meetings. In addition, specially appointed safety managers conducted workplace inspections, while the Occupational Safety and Health Committee organized weekly joint safety inspections involving both labor and management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By walking through worksites together, checking compliance with safety rules, reviewing workplace conditions, and listening directly to employees, both management and employees worked together to strengthen the company’s safety culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strengthening Safety Competencies Through Education and Experience<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heesung Catalysts also provided a variety of safety education programs to help employees identify and address workplace hazards on their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Risk assessment training led by external experts introduced participants to the process of identifying and evaluating workplace hazards in different operations. Employees also participated in hands-on exercises using realistic workplace scenarios to identify risks and develop improvement measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regular classroom training sessions for team leaders, executives, and legally designated supervisors reinforced the shared understanding that safety is a responsibility and value embraced by everyone, regardless of role or department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supervisors also visited a safety experience center, where they learned from real accident cases and participated in practical safety simulations, further reinforcing the importance of accident prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After 100 days of continuous effort, the Safety100 campaign concluded with the Safety100+ event. The event looked back on the campaign, shared outstanding safety practices from the workplace, and recognized departments and employees who made meaningful contributions to strengthening the company’s safety culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the Safety100 campaign has officially come to an end, the practices and experiences built over those 100 days continue to shape the company’s safety culture. Using Day 100 as a new starting point, Heesung Catalysts remains committed to making safety part of everyday work and creating a workplace where every employee can work with confidence and peace of mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
